Choking Hazard: An Exhibition about Toys @ kult (Feb 17-Mar 18)
By now, regardless of your age or geography (*especially for folks who read the TOYSREVIL-blog, yo!), you’d be familiar with the words “WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD”! Regardless if you choose to acknowledge that, or ignore it’s dire consequential effects (like, if you choose to gift your 2 year old with a LEGO mini figure with a removable accessory…*), if you like myself, LOVE “toys”, they you’d not want to miss “Choking Hazard: An Exhibition about Toys” at KULT (C2-5, 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120) with a launch happening February 17th and exhibiting thru March 18th, 2017!
WHAT-IS: "Kult will showcase the works of 30 artists and toy makers. The artists have dismantled existing toys sourced from toy markets and remixed them into new objects, inspired by the waste of mass production and over consumption. This show brings together a great international set of artists and designers."
(*We first saw the above custom by ANTZ HERE & will take a closer look soon*)
PARTICIPATING ARTISTS include: Aleeloulalei (SG), Alfonsus Wong (SG), Antz (SG), Ben Rider (UK), Bwana Spoons (USA), Daniel Yu (SG), Deladeso (USA), Doktor Karayom (PH), Ghislaine van Tongeren (NL), Handsome Studio (KR), Healey Made (USA), Humbly (PH), Julio Sanchez Rolden (SPN), Kristal Melson (SG), Kyle Kirwan (USA), Luke Chueh (USA), MAWZ (KR), Jason Freeny (SG), Manny Romero (USA), Mitch Shivers (USA), Mojoko (SG), Paola Germar (PH), Tikkywow (TH), Puffingmuffin (SG), Quiccs (PH), Riandi Sumadinata (INA), Russell Taysom (UK), Sket One (USA), Sucklord (USA), Yang (SG).

And it’ll not just be a exhibition where you stand and gawk and snap away on your mobile phone - you’ll get to have a chance to "Make your own art when you drop by the gallery.” “THE TOY DISASSEMBLY” will be an assembly line of pre-loved toys made available for you to take apart and ”re-build into your own Frankenstein-ian art piece." (*Which means I can have fun too! hehe)
LAUNCH PARTY is on 17th FEB 2017 (7pm to 11pm), featuring drinks by “Chug Lifestyle Drinking App”, and music by Kult Kafe. Head on to the Facebook Events Page to RSVP!
In tandem with the show, KULT magazine Issue #20 - themed “TOYS” - is currently available for pre-order online, featuring the works of 45 artists, who have pushed the world of toys into overdrive – individually interpreting and recreating playthings. (We’ll do a separate blog-feature for this soon).
